Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Release Delayed Again, April 30 Release Unlikely Amid Elections And CBFC Row | Tamil Cinema News

Jana Nayagan release faces fresh delay as distributor confirms it won’t arrive before April 30. Vijay’s final film remains stuck in CBFC row.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, was originally scheduled for release on January 9.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, was originally scheduled for release on January 9.

Fans waiting to watch Vijay’s last film before his full-time political plunge may have to wait longer. Jana Nayagan is now unlikely to release before April 30, adding another twist to its ongoing certification battle.

The latest update came not from the makers, but from Canadian distributor York Cinemas, which confirmed that the film will not hit screens before April 30. The announcement was shared on its official X handle, sparking fresh disappointment among fans overseas.

Distributor Confirms Delay

The statement was posted with the caption, “Important Announcement of Jananayagan. From York Cinemas Management.”

It read, “Dear Patrons, Please note that the movie Jana Nayagan will not be releasing before April 30th. If you have any pending tickets and your refund has not yet been processed, kindly contact our theatres to have it arranged at the earliest.”

“All our loyal membership holders will receive priority booking access once the new release date is confirmed. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support,” it added.

The note did not mention a revised release date. It only made it clear that the film will not arrive anytime soon.

Legal Trouble With CBFC

The delay traces back to the film’s dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Jana Nayagan was originally slated for a January 9 release. However, certification issues led to a legal battle between the makers and the board.

On January 27, a division bench of the Madras High Court set aside a January 9 order by a single judge that had directed the CBFC to certify the film. The court sent the matter back, stating that the board should have been given time to file a counter.

In February, producer KVN Productions withdrew its petition seeking a direction to the CBFC to grant a censor certificate. This move cleared the way for the revising committee to examine the film.

As of now, the film remains uncertified. Both KVN Productions and the CBFC have declined to comment.

Elections Add To Uncertainty

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections beginning in April, the window for a pre-election release appears unlikely. Vijay is expected to contest through his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, making this film especially significant in his career timeline.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. It is reportedly a remake of the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.

For now, Jana Nayagan remains in limbo, with fans still waiting for an official release date.
