Thudarum box office collection Day 5: Mohanlal’s blockbuster continues gaining momentum, nears Rs 40 crore mark | Malayalam News

Mohanlal seems to be on a roll. After delivering a thunderous success with L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran — which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film — the veteran actor is back with another crowd-puller. His latest release, Thudarum, has found a wide audience and is showing impressive numbers at the box office.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Thudarum earned an estimated Rs 6.5 crore on its fifth day (Tuesday), bringing its five-day India net total to ₹38 crore. What’s notable is that Tuesday’s earnings surpassed its opening day collection of Rs 5.25 crore, signaling strong word-of-mouth and growing audience interest. The film also saw solid occupancy figures on Tuesday, with an overall Malayalam occupancy rate of 50.25%. Show-wise, the breakdown was Morning: 35.48%, Evening: 59.11%, and Night: 59.33%, with cities like Kochi, Kollam, and Kottayam leading in occupancy percentages.

The film is being hailed as one of the finest Indian revenge thrillers that hasn’t compromised on any of its aspects—both creative and technical — while also ensuring brilliant performances. Many reviewers and critics are placing it in the same league as the Drishyam franchise, particularly in terms of its thrilling narrative and strong family drama appeal.

Directed by Tharun Moorthy and produced by Rejaputhra Visual Media, Thudarum is being hailed as a much-needed commercial comeback for Mohanlal. While Drishyam 2 received widespread acclaim, it was released directly on OTT. Since the theatrical success of Lucifer in 2019, the superstar has had a string of underwhelming box office performances — Neru opened well but garnered mixed reviews. Now, with both L2: Empuraan and Thudarum making waves, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for the Malayalam superstar.
