Thug Life: Mani Ratnam clear the air around Sanya Malhotra’s role in the film

As the release date for Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated action-drama Thug Life inches closer, the excitement among fans continues to grow. Headlined by cinema legend Kamal Haasan and Tamil star Silambarasan, the film promises to be an explosive entertainer. With music by AR Rahman and the creative vision of Mani Ratnam, expectations are sky-high.

Amid the buzz, fans have been speculating about the role of Bollywood actress Sanya Malhotra, who turned heads with her dynamic dance performance alongside Silambarasan in the chart-topping single Jinguchaa. Many expected her to play a significant part in the storyline, but director Mani Ratnam has now clarified her involvement.

Sanya’s Sizzling Cameo, Not a Full-Fledged Role
Speaking in a recent interview with Vikatan, Ratnam stated, “She has a cameo in the film and appears only in the song. It’s a friendly appearance. She is a great dancer and a lovely person to work with.”

Ratnam went on to explain the reasoning behind the casting, he said, “Since the film is set in Delhi, we wanted an authentic North Indian presence, and Sanya fit that requirement beautifully.”

A Star-Studded Cast and a Long-Awaited Reunion

While Sanya Malhotra’s role may be brief, Thug Life boasts an expansive ensemble featuring some of Indian cinema’s finest. Joining Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan are Trisha, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Nassar, Joju George, Mahesh Manjrekar, Tanikella Bharani, and Ali Fazal, among many others.

The film is particularly special as it reunites Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after a gap of 36 years, their last collaboration being the 1987 cult classic Nayakan. The return of this iconic duo has generated massive excitement across generations of cinephiles.
