Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav’s survival drama, Tu Yaa Main, is all set to release on February 13. Ahead of its release, director Bejoy Nambiar opened up about one of the most challenging and risky sequences. He revealed he chose to work with a real crocodile despite repeated warnings from his team.

Mid-day quoted director Bejoy Nambiar saying, “We broke the shoot into three parts — real crocodile, animatronic crocodile, and VFX. Everyone told me not to shoot with a real crocodile. But I felt that even if I got one authentic shot, it would be worth it.” Eventually a crocodile farm in Thailand was selected. He said, “We had four wranglers, a local safety team, and a small crew. We first shot the crocodile alone for half a shift, letting it get used to the environment. Only after that did we bring the actors in. After a point, the crocodile was so used to the wranglers that it almost felt like working with a trained animal. There was never a moment of aggression.”

Tu Yaa Main trailer

The trailer begins with a nod to the ‘80s classic Khoon Bhari Maang. A person is seen watching a DVD of the Rakesh Roshan-directed film, particularly the scene where Rekha’s character is attacked by a crocodile. Thus, setting the tone for what’s to follow next. As the trailer continues, it introduces two very different content creators. Shanaya plays a glamorous social media influencer, popularly known as Miss Vanity, Adarsh takes on the role of Aalaa Flowpura, a creator from Nalasopara. Their worlds collide through a social media “collab”. Soon, their professional partnership turns into a romantic relationship. But the mood of the trailer shifts when the two go on a trip together. At a point, Shanaya’s character notices a crocodile in a swimming pool at a villa where they were spending time. Then, things take a dangerous turn. The trailer moves into fast-paced sequences filled with panic and rising tension, as the pair finds themselves trapped and repeatedly attacked by the crocodile. Despite their desperate attempts to escape, they fail to get away. The video ends on a chilling note, with Shanaya’s character gravely injured and seen being taken away by the crocodile.
