Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard shared an update about her husband Abraham Williams on Thursday, revealing that he is recovering after undergoing a lengthy surgery for a rare form of bone cancer.
In a post on X, Gabbard said Williams had been diagnosed with a “very rare sacral chordoma” and recently underwent an operation that lasted nearly seven hours.
“My husband Abraham was diagnosed with a very rare sacral chordoma,” Gabbard wrote. “The surgery to remove bone and surrounding tissue lasted almost seven hours and was successful.”
She added that her husband “had a rough night and is in a lot of pain but is finally home resting,” before thanking supporters for their prayers and messages. “Now recovery begins,” she wrote.
Gabbard stepped down to support husband
The health update comes weeks after Gabbard announced her resignation from her role as Director of National Intelligence in order to care for her husband during his treatment.
According to Fox News, Gabbard informed President Donald Trump about her decision during an Oval Office meeting in mid-May. Her final day in office is expected to be June 30.

Gabbard described Williams’ condition as “an extremely rare form of bone cancer” in her formal resignation letter.
“At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she wrote at the time.
Gabbard also referred to Williams as her “rock” throughout their 11 years of marriage, citing his support during military deployments, political campaigns, and her time in public office.
What is sacral chordoma?
Sacral chordoma is a rare cancerous tumor that develops in the sacrum, the triangular bone located at the base of the spine above the tailbone.
According to the National Cancer Institute, chordomas are slow-growing tumors that can develop along the spine or at the base of the skull, though they are considered serious due to their location and difficulty of treatment.
