When Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor waited for each other to reach sets first to shoot Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’s Bole Chudiyan

Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is one of the biggest blockbusters ever made in Bollywood, with six leading actors working together. Recently, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani who was an assistant director in the film, recalled behind-the-scenes situations at the set from the shoot of the iconic song, Bole Chudiyan. He shared that actors like Shah Rukh Khan, waited for Hrithik, who asked about Kareena Kapoor before they came out to shoot the song, creating an amusing scene.

In a candid interview with Filmfare, Nikkhil Advani opened up about shooting for the popular song Bole Chudiyan, which has become a go-to song at Indian weddings.

The filmmaker recalled interesting scenes from the set and mentioned they faced a big challenge to coordinate logistics among the six of Bollywood’s biggest stars: Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, and Hrithik Roshan on the set for the shoot.

Advani shared that they had several vanity vans on set each for an actor and they had to ensure that everyone was ready on the set for the shoot. However, the simple task soon became a challenge since none of them was willing to leave and asked about the update on others. As a result, despite having a brightly lit and beautifully decorated set like the celebration during Diwali, everyone on set wondered about the whereabouts of the lead actors.

Recalling the scene, the Salaam-E-Ishq director said, “I went, and I told Kajol that shot is ready, she asked, ‘Has Shah Rukh come?’ I said no. She says, ‘Tell him to come, then I will come.’ I go to Shah Rukh, he asks, ‘Has Hrithik come? Tell him to come, then I’ll come.’ I go to Hrithik, he asks, ‘Has Bebo come? Tell her to come, and then I will.’ I go to Jaya ji, she asks, ‘Has the old man come? No.’ So nobody has come.”

Since he couldn’t get them out, the filmmaker devised another way to solve the confusion. He took the other assistant directors with him, and each took their place outside different actors’ vanity vans. They held walkie-talkies and couldn’t coordinate with each other.

He then informed them about the same to Jaya Bachchan and assured they would get all the actors out simultaneously. Consequently, they were able to get everyone on set together and shoot began.

Nikkhil highlighted that after their arrival on set, the actors shared a good bond and worked professionally. As a result, shooting experience was smooth and there was a happy sight on set. He revealed that the actors complimented each other, joked, and had fun working together. Advani shared that Jaya Bachchan and Kajol even conversed in Bengali language.

However, he noted Karan Johar, who directed the film, fainted in the end after shouting instructions to crew members on the walkie-talkie as he managed things on the big multi-starrer set. Still, it was a memorable shooting experience that gave one of the most popular wedding songs to Bollywood.
