Zarine Khan, the wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan, died on Friday, November 7, at her Mumbai residence. She was 81 years old. Known for her elegance, warmth, and presence, Zarine was a loved figure in Bollywood’s social circle. She had a brief acting career and was the author of the cookbook Family Secrets: The Khan Family Cookbook. Her passing has left the film industry and her family heartbroken, as friends and well‐wishers gathered to remember her. Her funeral received a lot of attention in the town as the family held her funeral as per Hindu customs. Numerous internet users began to raise questions regarding it.
Reason behind the funeral as per Hindu rituals
Before her marriage to Sanjay Khan, Zarine’s maiden name was Katrak. Therefore, the funeral took place according to Hindu customs. Zarine was 81 years old when she died from health issues related to ageing. Her husband, Sanjay Khan, and her four children, Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and Zayed Khan, survive her.
She met Sanjay when she was just 14 years old. Eventually, they began a romantic relationship, and in 1966, they tied the knot.

Hrithik and Sussanne divorced in 2014, yet they remained friends with one another. The actor participated in the funeral of his former mother-in-law, and his girlfriend, Saba Azad, joined him.
Following Hrithik and Sussanne’s divorce, Zarine discussed her relationship with the actor in an interview with IANS, stating, “He is still like a son to me. The divorce has no bearing on our relationship. We have been friends for years. Hrithik is the father of my grandchildren, and that bond lasts for life.”
