YouTuber Saleem Wastik Critical After Stabbing Attack At Ghaziabad Home | India News

Popular YouTuber Saleem Wastik is battling for his life after being repeatedly stabbed by two unidentified men who allegedly entered his residence in Ghaziabad’s Loni area on Friday morning.

According to police sources, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and entered Wastik’s home in Ashok Vihar Colony under the Loni Police Station limits. The attackers, who were reportedly wearing helmets, allegedly stabbed him multiple times in the neck and abdomen before fleeing the scene.

Wastik was initially taken to a nearby hospital but was later referred to GTB Hospital in Delhi after his condition deteriorated. Hospital sources described his condition as “extremely serious.”

Public Figure Known For Controversial Views

Saleem Wastik, who publicly identified as an ex-Muslim, was known for expressing critical views about Islam. Unlike many former Muslims who keep their religious views private, Wastik openly discussed his beliefs on public platforms. He ran two YouTube channels and appeared on television debates. His primary YouTube channel hosts 179 videos and has around 28,400 subscribers.

Several individuals and organisations on social media have linked the attack to Wastik’s outspoken views. However, police have not confirmed any motive and are continuing their investigation. Authorities are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area and examining other evidence.

An associate of Wastik, speaking to the media while concealing her identity, said she did not witness the exact sequence of events. “I did not see them or how many times they struck. The police arrived around 8 am, and an ambulance came to take him,” she said.

Social Media Claims Under Probe

There have also been claims circulating online that a person operating an Instagram account under the handle “official_m3hdi_” was responsible for the attack. These allegations stem from messages reportedly posted in a private group named “Muslim Army,” where the user allegedly claimed responsibility and referenced a video of the incident.

While the account exists, the authenticity of the group and the alleged messages has not been independently verified. Police have not confirmed any link between the account and the attack.

Wider Context And Reactions

The incident has reignited debate around the risks faced by individuals who publicly renounce or criticise religious beliefs. Globally, millions have switched or left their religions, according to Pew Research data. However, in certain contexts, apostasy, the act of leaving one’s faith can invite severe backlash, and in some countries, it is legally punishable.

Wastik had previously discussed the journey of another ex-Muslim activist, Sahil, who returned to Islam to fulfil his mother’s last wishes. Sahil, who has a significant online following, addressed the attack in a recent video, clarifying that reports of Wastik’s death were incorrect but confirming that he remains in critical condition.

Activists and supporters have expressed concern and urged authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. Police officials have maintained that all angles are being examined and have appealed for restraint, asking the public not to spread unverified claims while the probe is underway.
