For this star kid, growing up longing for her father and being raised by a mother who had her out of wedlock was not just a fictional narrative but a reality.

To add to the misery, she grew up gossip louder than truth, judged for her skin, hair, and identity. It was a daily reality that shaped her spirit.

Despite all the negativity around her, she decided not to give up and stand strong against all odds. Today, she owns a fashion label, has a beauty brand.

We are talking about none other than Masaba Gupta, the daughter of actor Neena Gupta and legendary West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards.

Masaba turned pain into power. In 2009, she launched House of Masaba and quickly gained recognition for her distinctive prints and aesthetics.

Her brand grew steadily, but the 2020 pandemic hit like a storm. Investors warned her the label had “three months to live,” and survival felt like a race against time and money.

She was told House of Masaba would shut by July 2020. Stores were closed, staff were let go and deposits were pulled back. Every day brought new calls predicting an end but she did not give up.

At her lowest, Masaba didn’t even have Rs 12,000 to pay her cook. With only Rs 2 lakh left, she cut losses, made masks and held on with sheer dedication.

Just when the runway seemed to disappear, Netflix called with Masaba Masaba. The show dropped in August 2020, saving her brand overnight.

Within hours of the show’s release, her website saw lakhs in sales. New customers discovered her and old ones returned. The label stood tall again.

In 2022, she launched Lovechild, a beauty brand which focuses on makeup, fragrances and body care. In less than three years, the brand exploded into a powerhouse.

It reported annual revenue of Rs 116 crore as of March 31, 2025 and employed 201 people as of August 31, 2025. The brand ranked 49th among 828 competitors in the market.
