A thick blanket of fog is once again set to engulf Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, prompting weather authorities to issue orange and yellow alerts across large parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department in Lucknow has issued an orange alert for ‘very dense fog’ in 13 districts of eastern and central Uttar Pradesh, while a yellow alert for dense fog has been sounded in 27 districts stretching from eastern to western UP.
Districts under the orange alert include Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabirnagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur and Bareilly.
An orange alert for very dense fog has been issued in districts including Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabirnagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sidharthanagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Bareilly.
A yellow warning has been issued for Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Gazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal and Badaun.
Experts warned that very dense fog in these districts could reduce the visibility to less than 50 metres and affect traffic movement as well. On Tuesday, low visibility owing to dense fog led to a deadly pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway that left 13 people dead.
Districts across the Eastern and Central belt as well as parts of West UP witnessed very dense fog in the early hours of Tuesday. Sources said several flights were delayed from Delhi due to low visibility, affecting the flight schedule at Lucknow Airport as well.

On Monday, in several western UP cities, dense fog coincided with ‘severe’ air quality. Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida reported average Air Quality Index levels above 400 — with Noida at 437, Greater Noida at 447 and Ghaziabad at 444.
