A 70-year-old passenger died after complaining of chest pain and discomfort on an Air India flight from Vancouver to Delhi via Kolkata. Dalbir Singh, a resident of Delhi, was deboarded from the aircraft around 9:15 pm at Kolkata airport after he reported chest pain.
While the flight continued its journey with the remaining 176 passengers, Singh was taken to Charnok Hospital.
Doctors later declared him dead. His family was informed, and the body was shifted to RG Kar Medical College for a post-mortem examination.
In another incident reported in August 2025, a medical emergency unfolded on an Air India flight from New Delhi to Bengaluru when a woman began “bleeding profusely” through her nose mid-air.
The pilot expedited the landing to ensure immediate medical help, touching down at Kempegowda International Airport 16 minutes ahead of schedule, where a doctor was already waiting to board and attend to the passenger.
On another flight, a middle-aged passenger travelling with Air India Express from Bengaluru to Guwahati became unresponsive when his pulse dropped sharply.
The plane diverted to Bhubaneswar for an emergency landing; the passenger was rushed to the hospital. The incident took place on October 9, 2025.
