Akshay Kumar’s cameo in Stree 2 last year grabbed a lot of eyeballs. Interestingly, despite delivering films as a leading with Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira in 2024, it was Stree 2 that turned out to be his biggest blockbuster. At present, it has earned the epithet of the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time by bagging more than Rs 800 crore at the worldwide box office. Fans are now curious if Akshay will revive his character in Stree 3 and if he will be a more substantial part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe.
Akshay Kumar Answers If He Will Be A Part Of Stree 3
Recently, Maddock Films announced their upcoming line-up and shared that Stree 3 is slated for a theatrical release on August 13. At the trailer launch of Sky Force, Akshay quipped that the film marks his ‘dedh’ collaboration with Dinesh Vijan. When asked if he will now be a part of the producer’s horror-comedy universe, Akshay exclusively told News18, “What can I say? Dinesh and Jyoti (Deshpande; producer) will have to decide that. They’re the ones to pump in the money.” Seemingly confirming his role in Stree 3, Akshay added, “Aur Amar Kaushik ko direct karna hai.”
Reacting to it, Dinesh confirmed the news to us and said, “Of course, he’s a part of the universe! He’s our Thanos (laughs).”
For the unversed, Akshay Kumar’s character in Stree 2 was introduced as the leader of a hospital for the mentally disabled. Though his name wasn’t disclosed, he was also referred to as the last living member of Sarkata’s bloodline, who holds the key to permanently vanquishing the ghost. It would indeed be interesting to see if Akshay gets to headline a standalone horror-comedy film in the near future.
Stree 2 was released in theatres on August 15, 2024. Amar Kaushik’s directorial dominated the domestic box office for almost 1.5 months and earned over Rs 600 crore in India. The film starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead.
