Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation has prompted a wave of reactions from across the Indian film industry, with actors, musicians and creators celebrating what many described as a landmark victory for students protesting against the alleged NEET paper leak and examination irregularities.

Pradhan stepped down on Saturday, July 25, submitting his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after weeks of sustained demonstrations. He announced the decision on X just hours before the third round of talks between the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the Centre. His resignation had remained one of the key demands of protesters gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for over a month.

The protest movement, which began over allegations surrounding the NEET examination process, gradually grew into a larger campaign demanding accountability and reforms in India’s education system. Students from across the country participated in demonstrations, while public figures, educators and celebrities increasingly voiced their support.

Among the first celebrities to react was Sonakshi Sinha. The actress shared the news of Pradhan’s resignation on her Instagram Stories before reposting a video uploaded by the Cockroach Janta Party featuring founder Abhijeet Dipke reacting to the development. Alongside the clip, she wrote, “Bhaiiii kya kar diyaaaa?!?!?.”

Priyanka Chopra also acknowledged the development on Instagram Stories by sharing a news update about the resignation and adding celebratory reactions.

Several other celebrities echoed the sentiment in the comments section of viral posts announcing the news. Prajakta Koli wrote, “Big Big Big Winn!!!”, while Malaika Arora, Diana Penty, Shibani Akhtar and Tisca Chopra also welcomed the development through their social media interactions.

Actor Vijay Varma chose humour, sharing a picture of Dharmendra Pradhan alongside a line from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s Channa Mereya. He wrote, “Accha chalta hoon.. duaaon mein yaad rakhna.”

Vir Das, meanwhile, kept his message brief but heartfelt. His text post simply read, “Friends,” while his caption applauded the students’ determination.

Actor Prakash Raj, who has consistently supported the demonstrations and attended the protests at Jantar Mantar, congratulated the students and protest leaders. He wrote, “Congratulations my Dear Cockroaches.. Dear Sonam Wangchuk sir and every single one who stood by the youth. You Have proved that you can bring a regime down to its knees. #justasking.”

Tillotama Shome also shared an emotional note celebrating the movement. Her post read, “Dharmendra Pradhan Has resigned as Union Education Minister. Most fortunate to witness this historic Revolution led by our youth. ‘Youth is wasted on the young’ can retire officially. And other tired cliches and cynical smart Alecs. And, NO, not back to business as usual. Thank you thank you to the YOUTH of INDIA!!!”

Ishaan Khatter posted a photograph of himself posing beside graffiti bearing the words “Inqabab Zindabad”. Alongside it, he wrote, “India won today. Democracy won today. Millions of collective empathy flushed out millions of years of apathy of habits. So damn proud. THIS is my India I grew up in. Maa tujhe salaam.”

Alia Bhatt was among the latest stars to react. Taking to Instagram Stories after the resignation became official, the actress praised the younger generation for standing firm in its demands. She wrote, “Gen Z showed up! The rest is history.”

The resignation marks a significant chapter in the ongoing NEET controversy, which has dominated national discourse for weeks. Student groups had maintained that accountability at the highest level was necessary following allegations surrounding the examination process.
