Pune city police have released the sketches of two suspects who allegedly robbed a jewellery shop on B T Kawade Road by pointing a gun and spraying pepper spray into the eyes of its 77-year-old owner on December 8.
The shop owner, Walchand Achaldasji Oswal, a resident of New Nana Peth, Pune Camp, had lodged an FIR in this connection at Mundhwa police station.
As per the FIR, Oswal and his son operate the Arihant Jewellers located at Borate Wasti on the B T Kawade Road in Mundhwa. On December 8, they opened the shop around 10 am.
After doing business for the whole day, they started winding up their work at the shop. At around 9.30 pm, when Oswal’s son went out for a cup of tea and he was busy going through the accounts register book, two persons entered the shop and pulled the shutter down.
One of them pointed a gun at Oswal and sprayed pepper spray into his eyes. The robbers then looted about 35 grams of gold jewellery estimated at Rs 2.45 lakh.
As Oswal shouted for help, people in the neighbouring shops rushed to the spot, but the robbers escaped towards B T Kawade Road, the FIR stated.
Police have booked the unidentified robbers under Section 309 (6), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and various sections of the Indian Arms Act.
Based on clues obtained from the videos captured by multiple CCTV cameras installed at different locations and the description given by Oswal, police have prepared the sketch of two robbers.
Police released the sketches today and have appealed to the people to contact the Mundhwa police station on 020-29807118 or senior police inspector Neelkant Jagtap at 8007066300, if there is any information about the suspects who are about 25 years of age.
Police have assured rewards for sharing correct information.
