George Clooney recently made his Broadway debut with Good Night and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of his 2005 film. His performance was met with praise from a star-studded audience in New York. However, his wife, Amal Clooney, was notably absent from the event. While the couple reportedly has ample childcare support, her absence sparked fresh speculation about the state of their marriage. This isn’t the first time such rumours have circulated. With George caught up in political commitments and intense Broadway rehearsals, he’s been away from Amal and their children for weeks, fueling talk of growing tension between the two.
Speaking with Radar Online, a source close to the couple said, “Certainly, they have options when it comes to childcare so that Amal could get away for a couple of hours. People were whispering, wondering whether there might be trouble in the marriage.” George and Amal “have been a golden couple for so long,” however, “their relationship hasn’t been looking so perfect. Friends are hoping what they’re now facing doesn’t mean they’re headed for divorce.”
Initially, it was believed that Amal Clooney and the twins would remain abroad while George Clooney worked in New York. However, they eventually joined him in the U.S. As the show’s opening neared, George became increasingly consumed by preparations. An insider revealed that the actor “had no idea how much work goes into putting on a Broadway show. It’s consumed him day and night.” Even when he’s offstage, he’s reportedly preoccupied with the production’s details and the immense responsibility it carries.
Amal, on the other hand, “isn’t happy that work continues to take up so much of his time. That wasn’t the plan when they agreed to move the family to New York for the play’s duration. She’s willing to support George, but not if it means her career comes second.”
Adding to the pressure of his Broadway debut, George Clooney’s recent political controversies have only intensified the strain. In July, he stirred debate by penning an op-ed urging President Joe Biden to step down due to age concerns. The situation escalated in April when a new book revealed that Clooney lashed out at a TV producer over speculation that Barack Obama was behind the piece. Though Clooney later backed Kamala Harris for president, the endorsement failed to gain significant traction. Amid this growing tension, sources say Amal is running out of patience, and George’s mounting frustration is beginning to take a toll on their relationship.
According to insiders, George Clooney loves and respects Amal, and as an older father, losing his family will hurt him. The actor needs to rethink what is most important in his life and start giving more time to his family.
