It seems like some people were not impressed by Hasmi’s performance in the film. One viewer wrote, “Film #HAQ is a must-watch for all Muslim women. Yami Gautam is at her very best. Director #SupernVerma has done a brilliant job. Emraan Hashmi’s wig is as bad as his acting. Vartika Singh has done very impressive acting. It’s produced by #SandeepSingh and #VickyJain! Love it.” Another said, “Watched #Haq at the special screening last evening.

It’s not just a film; it’s a mirror to our society raising tough, necessary questions about justice, equality, and faith. @yamigautam is absolutely phenomenal as Shazia Bano powerful yet vulnerable, she breathes life into a role that will be remembered for a long time. And @emraanhashmi delivers one of his most mature, layered performances restrained, compelling, and real. #Haq is more than cinema it’s a conversation we all need to have.”

#Haq is not as what I thought of – I felt there will be some political propaganda in it, but I was wrong. I am rather happy with the compact script, sticking to the concerning matter with a courtroom drama! Having watched #YamiGautam, I can say she is at the top and there is noone who can be close to what she is doing. More about Haq
Directed by Suparn S. Varma, Haq is inspired by the real-life case that took place between Shah Bano Begum, a Muslim woman, and her husband, Mohammed Ahmad Khan. For the unversed, Shah Bano Begum was married to a famous lawyer from Indore, Mohammed Ahmad Khan. after full 3 decades of their marriage, Khan abandoned his wife, as well as the five children that they were parents of. This led to Bano finding herself at the steps of court, seeking justice. Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum became a landmark case, which fueled a surge of pan-nation debates on female rights and Muslim personal law.
In the film, Yami Gautam plays the role of Shah Bano Begum, while Hashmi portrays the character of Mohammed Ahmad Khan, Yami’s husband as well as her legal opponent.
The movie features a fictionalized version of Shah Bano Begum and is an adaptation of Jigna Vora’s book, Bano: Bharat Ki Beti.
