Heavy downpour in Mumbai, IMD issued Orange alert

After an intense overnight rainfall, Mumbai woke up to heavy downpour on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an Orange alert for the city and neighbouring districts, including Thane, Raigad, and Palghar.

IMD forecasted moderate to intense spells of rain for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Sindhudurg. The city recorded of 195mm rainfall on June 24 at 8am from June 23 at 8 a.m., with eastern suburb receiving 167 mm and western suburb 208 mm. 

After a delay of 13 days, Mumbai drenched into a heavy rainfall starting from Tuesday (June 23, 2026) after the southwest monsoon hit Mumbai.

According to IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into the central Arabian Sea causing rainfall in several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Telangana and Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

The heavy rainfall has incurred water logging at several spots in Mumbai, including subway in Everard Nagar, near Saki Naka Metro station area and others. According to BMC, In Mumbai’s Vikhroli West, a retaining wall near a residential building collapsed on late Tuesday night, why a tree fall on car has been reported in Dadar.
