In the ongoing Kishtwar operation in Jammu and Kashmir that saw security forces eliminate terrorists in the forested belt, one of the most talked-about heroes is not a soldier but a specially trained sniffer dog named Tyson — who continued the mission even after being shot.

According to officials, Tyson, attached to 2 Para Special Forces, was the first to confirm the presence of terrorists in the operation zone on Sunday morning. As troops advanced through the dense terrain, the dog moved ahead of the column to track the hideout and was hit by a bullet in his leg, News18 Hindi said in a report.

Despite the injury, Tyson stayed with the team and helped forces establish contact with the militants, playing a key role in guiding troops to the hideout, officials said. He was later airlifted to the Army hospital in Udhampur, where he is now stable and recovering, according to a separate report by Jammu and Kashmir-based Daily Excelsior.

Army officials told News18 Hindi said Tyson has been part of several major operations and is trained to detect explosives, identify suspicious locations and assist in tracking terrorists during search missions. His role has repeatedly helped troops locate hideouts in difficult terrain.

The Kishtwar encounter itself resulted in a major success for security forces, with Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Saifullah among three terrorists killed during the operation in the Passerkut area of the Chatroo belt. Saifullah, a Pakistani national, had been active in the Doda-Kishtwar region for years and was linked to multiple attacks, according to security officials.

Weapons and ammunition, including assault rifles, were recovered from the site, the Army said, describing the operation as a significant blow to militant activity in the region.
