Two locals, including teacher, held for ‘providing logistic support’ to Saifullah terror group in Kishtwar

Two locals, including a school teacher, were arrested in the Chenab Valley’s Kishtwar over allegations of “aiding foreign terrorists and providing shelter and logistical support”. “Through meticulous investigation and precise operations, police apprehended Mashkoor Ahmed, a resident of Beighpora, Singhpora, Kishtwar, who is a teacher in the School Education Department. He was directly implicated in facilitating the terrorists’ hideout. This arrest disrupts critical logistics supporting terror activities in the region,” the police said. The police identified the other accused as Maneer Ahmed, a resident of Bandeyan Naidgam. “The investigation continues to dismantle the entire network, with all perpetrators to face justice under due legal process,” the police said. The police said these locals “extended support to the Saifullah group”, comprising around six non-local terrorists who were neutralised in multiple operations in the Kishtwar district in the past one year. According to the security officials, six Pakistan-sponsored terrorists were killed in February-March in the Kishtwar-Udhampur belt this year. In February this year, Saifullah and his two associates were also killed in an anti-terror operation.   Meanwhile, the police lodged an FIR …

Kishtwar DC regulates Ramadan donations; CM Omar Abdullah defends move

Amid a row over an order regulating the collection of donations during Ramzan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the decision was taken after consultations with local religious leaders and should not be politicised. Citing concerns over unauthorised fund raising, the deputy commissioner of Kishtwar had on Wednesday issued an order regulating the collection of donations during the holy month. Responding to concerns raised by Congress MLAs Gulam Ahmed Mir and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat in the Assembly on Thursday, Abdullah said he looked into the matter and found that the deputy commissioner did not issue the order arbitrarily. He said all district commissioners had been instructed in advance to engage with local communities and make necessary preparations for Ramzan. During one such meeting, religious leaders from the Muslim community in and around Kishtwar met the deputy commissioner and highlighted the issue of individuals setting up fake non-governmental organisations during Ramzan to collect donations, the chief minister said. “They informed the administration that money is often collected in the name of charity or …
