“India reaffirms its support to the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela. We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability of the region,” the MEA statement read.
“The Embassy of India in Caracas is in contact with members of the Indian community and will continue to provide all possible assistance,” it added.
President Donald Trump-led United States administration on Saturday captured Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro along with his wife after a dramatic military strike that hit country’s capital Caracas as well as other areas as part of its crackdown on “narco-terrorism”.
Maduro was flown out of Venezuela, after which Trump said the US is going to run the country until a transition of power happens.
Amid the developments in Venezuela, the MEA issued an advisory on Saturday asking Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the country.
“In view of recent developments in Venezuela, Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela,” the MEA advisory stated.
“All Indians who are in Venezuela for any reason are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements,” the advisory further said and shared an email id – [email protected] and a phone number – 58-412-9584288 – for emergency contacts.
