In a relief to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in the India’s Got Latent controversy, the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the release of his passport, but with conditions.

The development came after the court was informed that the investigation against Allahbadia had been completed, and that he would appear whenever required.

Following the order, Allahbadia was allowed to apply for his passport release from the Maharashtra Cyber Cell.

On April 1, the Supreme Court had said it would consider Allahbadia’s application to release his passport to travel abroad, after the investigation in the case is completed.

A row had erupted after controversial remarks made by him and others in an episode of India’s Got Latent.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Maharashtra government, told the top court that the investigation will be completed in the case in two weeks.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and NK Singh also extended its interim order of granting protection to the podcaster from arrest in the First Information Report (FIR)s registered against him in Guwahati, Mumbai and Jaipur.

The court was hearing his petition seeking the clubbing of FIRs registered against him across the country.

Earlier, the top court had permitted Allahabadia to resume his podcast ‘The Ranveer Show’, subject to maintaining standards of decency and morality.
