Renowned lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar was recently left completely charmed by a melodious voice. Akhtar, known for his profound lyrics, stumbled upon a Pakistani singer’s performance online. Instead of simply enjoying the moment, Akhtar took to social media and asked the internet to search for this singer. On March 14, he urged his followers to see if anyone could connect him with the ‘gentleman’ so they could collaborate.
In his post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Javed Akhtar wrote, “Just now I watched a gentleman Muazzam saheb on YouTube singing ‘Yeh Nain Deray Deray.’ Could he please contact me? I will be thankful if he sings a few songs for us.”
Ever since the post went viral, the internet has been abuzz with speculation. A majority of users suggested that the lyricist was likely referring to Moazzam Ali Khan, a Pakistani singer known for his renditions of classic songs. Some also drew comparisons to legendary Indian ghazal singer Jagjit Singh.

A social media user even took to the comments section of the video, alerting him about Akhtar’s interest. “Muazzam Saheb, Javed Akhtar Sahab just watched your rendition of ‘Yeh Nain Darey Darey’ on YouTube and was truly impressed! He has expressed interest in having you sing a few songs for him. Kindly connect with him at your earliest convenience. This is a wonderful opportunity!” the account wrote.
Coming to singer Moazzam Ali Khan, he often posts snippets of his performances on Instagram and YouTube. The latest one in his feed was the rendition of Hemant Kumar’s Yeh Nain Darey Darey. His videos are loved by viewers online, and Bollywood bigwigs like actor Hrithik Roshan, Bina Kak, and singer Rekha Bharadwaj couldn’t hold back from showering praise on the singer.
Besides Yeh Nain Darey Darey, his music catalogue includes covers of Koi Faryad from Tum Bin, Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh by Jagjit Singh, and Dil Dhoondta Hai by Bhupinder Singh. Apart from his melodious music, Moazzam Ali Khan is also an actor by profession and has appeared in several television serials.
