Spotify hosted its first-ever I-Pop Icons Live, uniting leading Indian pop stars including King, Armaan Malik, Jonita Gandhi, Aditya Rikhari, Kushagra, Hansika Pareek, and Sanju Rathod.

Spotify marked a major cultural milestone on November 7 as it hosted the inaugural I-Pop Icons Live, a premium live experience celebrating India’s rapidly rising generation of pop artists. The event brought together some of the biggest names in the Indian pop landscape — including King, Armaan Malik, Jonita Gandhi, Aditya Rikhari, Kushagra, Hansika Pareek, and Sanju Rathod — for a power-packed evening of performances.

The star-studded showcase highlighted the explosive growth of I-Pop on the platform, with artists dominating Spotify’s charts and defining what modern Indian pop sounds like today.

I-Pop’s Meteoric Rise on Spotify

In the past few years, I-Pop has emerged as a major force on Spotify, with listeners discovering new favourites across languages and regions. Aditya Rikhari’s “Sahiba” is currently the #1 song on Spotify’s Weekly Top Songs India chart, while 12 of the top 20 entries are also I-Pop tracks — signalling the genre’s strong hold on Indian audiences.

Spotify’s flagship playlist I-Pop Icons, launched in August 2024, has already crossed 428,000 followers, while accompanying playlists — I-Pop Rising, I-Pop Mohabbat, I-Pop Chill, I-Pop Sad Feels, and I-Pop Party — cater to every mood. A dedicated hub, Home of I-Pop, now serves as the central space for fans to explore India’s evolving pop scene.

Dhruvank Vaidya, Head of Music and Podcast at Spotify India, said, “We have seen I-Pop consumption grow significantly. With playlists, bespoke content, and now I-Pop Icons Live, Spotify is fully invested in elevating the genre. King’s ‘Maan Meri Jaan’ was the most-streamed track in India in 2023, and Aditya Rikhari’s ‘Sahiba’ is topping charts today. We expect this growth to continue as more artists enter the space.”

India’s I-Pop Trailblazers Take Center Stage

The evening celebrated the artists shaping the new era of Indian pop:

King

With over 9 million followers on Spotify, King remains one of India’s biggest pop sensations. His track “Maan Meri Jaan” was the most-streamed song in India in 2023, while his album Champagne Talk debuted at #4 on Spotify’s Global Albums Top 50.

Armaan Malik

Boasting 23 million followers, Armaan is one of the most-followed Indian artists on Spotify. Known for his global collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Calum Scott, Eric Nam and more, he was also the first Indian to feature on the Spotify Times Square billboard in 2020.

Jonita Gandhi

With 17 million monthly listeners, Jonita continues to push multilingual pop into the mainstream. Her hit “Sitara” with DIVINE remains her most streamed I-Pop track.

Aditya Rikhari

A breakout star with 25 million monthly listeners, Aditya’s “Sahiba” has spent more than 18 weeks on the Top Songs India chart and currently holds the #1 spot.

Kushagra

The rising pop artist has seen a 665% growth in listeners this year, amassing over 400,000 followers.

Hansika Pareek

With 9 million monthly listeners, Hansika’s “Ratiyaan” hit the Viral Songs India chart. She is also a former RADAR India artist.

Sanju Rathod

The Marathi pop star is redefining regional music. His song “Gulabi Sadi” became the first-ever Marathi track to cross 100 million Spotify streams, while “Shaky” peaked at #2 on the Top Songs India chart — another first for Marathi music.

A Milestone Moment for I-Pop

The first edition of Spotify I-Pop Icons Live signals a transformative era for Indian pop music — one driven by diverse artists, cross-genre experimentation, and a deepening bond between musicians and fans.

With I-Pop’s rise showing no signs of slowing down, Spotify’s growing ecosystem of playlists, live events, and artist partnerships is poised to amplify the movement like never before.
