Lovlina clinches gold, Shiva Thapa takes silver


Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain added another accolade to her name, securing gold in the women’s 75kg boxing category at the National Games, on Friday. Meanwhile, Shiva Thapa, a six-time Asian champion, had to settle for silver in the men’s 63.5kg division after a narrow defeat.

Competing in her first tournament since the Paris Olympics, Lovlina dominated Pranshu Rathore of Chandigarh with a flawless 5-0 victory, reaffirming her superiority in the ring.

In the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) final, Thapa faced a tough challenge against Vanshaj from the Services Sports Control Board. The contest was closely fought, but Vanshaj edged out a 4-3 win, denying Thapa the top spot.

– Mandengbam Singh (Services) emerged victorious in the men’s 51kg flyweight category, defeating Chandigarh’s Anshul Punia by a 4-1 split decision.

– Jasmine Lamboria, a Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, dominated the women’s 60kg final, outclassing Haryana’s Manisha Moun with a 5-0 victory.

– Services’ Sakshi clinched gold in the women’s event, comfortably beating Vinakshi from Himachal Pradesh 5-0.

– In the women’s bantamweight division, Divya Panwar from Madhya Pradesh overcame Uttar Pradesh’s Sonia Lather with a 4-1 scoreline.

– Nivedita Karki, a local favorite, showcased her skill and speed in the women’s 50kg flyweight final, overpowering Haryana’s Kalpana to take gold.

– Assam’s former youth world champion Ankushita Boro proved her dominance in the 66kg welterweight category, securing a unanimous decision victory over Uttarakhand’s Kajal.
