Admiral Tripathi noted that the operation showcased the Navy’s constant state of readiness

The Indian Navy’s Operation Sindoor, launched in May following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, is “still ongoing” and remains highly sensitive, said Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Sunday.

Speaking at the Admiral JG Nadkarni Memorial Lecture in Pune, Admiral Tripathi said, “Operation Sindoor is still ongoing; it is not over. Anything pertaining to operation is best avoided. The air defence between the three services is integrated, and it was done during Operation Sindoor as well. The navy is fully on board.”

Admiral Tripathi noted that the operation showcased the Navy’s constant state of readiness. Swift deployment of naval platforms, multiple weapon firings within 96 hours of the Pahalgam attack, and aggressive manoeuvring ensured Pakistan’s naval forces remained confined to their harbours.

“The Indian Navy is known for its combat readiness and we always prepare for battle, even if it was far and few in between. But what has changed now? Today, conflicts are happening without notice, heralding a constant readiness paradigm to our posture and preparedness. Operation Sindoor is a classic example in this regard,” he said.

The Navy chief underlined the strategic role India can play in ensuring stability at sea. “When the global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India can play that role, and the Indian Navy’s actions at sea embody this responsibility,” he noted.

Admiral Tripathi also spoke about the changing threat landscape, noting that non-state actors now deploy weapons and tactics previously associated with state-level conflicts.

“The non-traditional threat spectrum now involves weapons, tactics, and intent that mirror state-level conflicts. This necessitates all our units proceeding to sea to be outfitted for combat to the extent feasible while being prepared for other constabulary and marine roles at sea,” he noted.
