Budget Session Parliament 2026 Live: Both Houses of the Parliament, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, will take up the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address on Monday. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is set to initiate the debate on behalf of the BJP in the lower house and BJP MP Tejasvi Surya will second the motion. Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP C Sadanandan Master will move the motion, and his fellow party MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni will second the motion.
Parliament has earmarked 18 hours for the discussion, during which members from across parties are expected to participate. The Lok Sabha will convene at 11 am today to address a packed agenda. According to the Congress, Rahul Gandhi is likely to speak today. The debate is scheduled to begin around 2 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to respond to the discussion on February 4. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply on February 11.
President Droupadi Murmu addressed the joint sitting of both Houses on the first day of the Budget Session on Wednesday. In her address, she outlined the Centre’s vision for social justice, inclusive growth, and a developed India. This comes a day after the Union Budget was presented. The Economic Survey was tabled on Thursday. The two Houses will be adjourned for recess on February 13 and reassemble on March 9 to enable the Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
