It was recently confirmed that Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will feature in a dance track in Varanasi. Thanks to an interview that has surfaced online, we now have an idea of what it is going to be like.

A lavish Latin-style dance number

An undated interview with senior dance choreographer Shankar reveals a spoiler about the potentially foot-tapping number. Shankar said that after a marathon story session with Rajamouli, he knew that the song had to be very unique. He confirmed plans for a lavish Latin-style dance number featuring a specialised UK dance crew. MM Keeravani’s composition is expected to blend Indian musical influences with Latin-style music.

Latin-style dance numbers are rarely explored in Indian cinema due to the lack of a suitable context. SS Rajamouli, known for his extraordinary imagination, is likely to make the best use of typical Latin dance elements such as fast footwork and high-energy kicks. So why has a UK dance crew been chosen? London is considered a global hub for world-class Ballroom and Latin dance training. If the choreography requires Latin Ballroom, UK-based troupes are among the most technically proficient in the world.

Up for Antarctica schedule

Varanasi is set for a schedule in Antarctica. Details of this visually ambitious schedule are not known yet. Mahesh Babu has returned from a Georgia schedule. Priyanka Chopra will participate in the upcoming schedule alongside her co-star.

The first glimpse of the film, released in November last year, shows Mahesh’s character Rudhra charging through the streets of Varanasi on a bull, wielding a trishul (trident) and wearing a Nandi pendant. Prithviraj Sukumaran plays an antagonist named Kumbha, while Prakash Raj has another major role. Priyanka will be playing Mandakini, a character who also takes part in action sequences. Varanasi is scheduled to be released in theatres on April 7, 2027.
