India on Friday reacted to Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s remarks on improving Indo-Pakistan ties, where he emphasised on to “create an environment to help improve the relations”.
“The relevant ‘T’ word is terrorism and not Tango,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaisawal said today during the weekly briefing.

Earlier this week, Dar had urged India to improve ties between both countries and said “it takes two to tango,” ARY News reported. He had also called upon India to “create an environment to help improve the relations”.
Indo Pak Strained Ties
The ties between two countries deteriorated after India’s warplanes pounded a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot in Pakistan in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack. Pakistan further downgraded diplomatic ties with India after New Delhi abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan’s then foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India in May 2023 to attend an in-person meeting of the foreign ministers of the SCO nations in Goa.
Recently, the point of contention between both the countries was the ICC Champions Trophy. Ever since the ICC announced the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, there have been concerns over India’s participation in the marquee event given the diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring countries. The BCCI made it clear that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan due to strained ties and security concerns.
As per the ICC schedule, the eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches and will be played across Pakistan and Dubai. The much-anticipated Pakistan-India clash will be played at the Dubai International Stadium on February 23.
India and Pakistan have only faced off in ICC multi-nation events since their last bilateral series in the 2012-13 season. Pakistan did not host any international cricket between 2009 and 2015 after gunmen attacked the Sri Lanka team 15 years ago.
Jaishankar’s Visit to Pakistan
In October 2024, EAM Jaishankar made a visit to Islamabad to attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. It was the first time in nearly nine years that India’s foreign minister travelled to Pakistan even as the ties between the two neighbours remained tense over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
