Several trains on the Mangaluru-Shoranur route were delayed for hours after a goods train derailed at Pallippuram, near Pattambi, on Sunday. The goods train on its way from Mangaluru to Palakkad derailed around 11.30 a.m.
An engineering team from Shoranur shifted the train to another track and restored traffic by 2 p.m. Shoranur-bound trains such as Eranad Express (16605), Parasuram Express (16649), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Kochuveli Superfast Express (22113), Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Express (22634), Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram Janshatabdi Express (12075), and Kozhikode-Palakkad Passenger (06071) were delayed.
The Kozhikode-Palakkad passenger train short-terminated at Shoranur. Railway officials said trains towards Mangaluru were not affected.
