Amid the ongoing crisis, IndiGo has promised a complete waiver on all cancellation and reschedule fees for travel between 5 and 15 December 2025.

“In response to recent events, all refunds for your cancellations will be processed automatically to your original mode of payment. We will offer full waiver on all cancellations/ reschedule requests of your bookings for travel between 5 December 2025 and 15 December 2025,” said IndiGo in an official statement.

IndiGo is facing a major crisis after it failed to comply with the DGCA’s new rules. Over 1,000 flights were cancelled alone on Friday, leaving thousands of travellers frustrated.

Govt Intervention

Centre had to step in as the situation got worse, and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday warned the airline of necessary action while asserting that nobody can “arm-twist” the government.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has ordered IndiGo to immediately process all pending passenger refunds. The airline has been told to complete refunds for every cancelled or disrupted flight by 8:00 PM on Sunday, 7 December 2025.

The Ministry has also instructed all airlines not to charge any fees for rescheduling travel plans that were affected by cancellations. Officials warned that any delay or failure to follow these directions will lead to strict regulatory action.

Centre Directs All Airlines Not To Charge Rescheduling Fees

Airlines have also been instructed not to charge rescheduling fees for passengers whose trips were disrupted, so travellers are not burdened for issues beyond their control.

According to the government, this step is necessary to keep fares in check and to prevent airlines or booking platforms from taking advantage of the situation, especially when thousands of passengers—including senior citizens, students and those travelling for medical reasons—are struggling to find seats after large-scale cancellations.

Officials added that airfares will now be tracked in real time, and both airlines and online travel portals will be closely monitored.

“Any violation of these guidelines will result in immediate action,” the ministry cautioned.
