In a major relief, Air India and Air India Express have introduced a one-time waiver on change and cancellation fees for eligible domestic bookings. Passengers who booked flights until December 4 for travel up to December 15, 2025 can either reschedule their journey without paying the rescheduling fee or cancel their ticket for a full refund, provided the change is made by December 8, 2025.

A fare difference, if any, will still apply in case of rebooking. Both airlines said the waiver can be accessed through their 24×7 contact centres and through travel agents, said the airlines in an official statement.

Air India Express passengers have an additional option of using chatbot Tia, available on WhatsApp (+91 63600 12345), the airline’s website, app and Facebook Messenger. This comes as IndiGo face a major crisis, cancelling over thousand flights in the last few days.

More Staff Deployed To Handle Calls

With call volumes rising sharply, the airlines have deployed extra staff at their customer support centres.

The helpline numbers are:

Air India: +91 11 6932 9333

Air India Express: +91 124 443 5600 / +91 124 693 5600

Maximising Seats, Upgrades Where Possible

The carriers said they are working to make the maximum number of seats available across their network. Where operationally possible, eligible Economy passengers may be upgraded at no extra cost to ensure that every seat is utilised and more stranded travellers can be accommodated. Additional flights are also being operated on key routes.

Benefits For Students, Seniors And Armed Forces Continue

Special discounted fares for students, senior citizens and Armed Forces personnel remain available on the websites and apps of both airlines. These concessions allow eligible passengers to book tickets even lower than the fare caps currently in place.
