In unfortunate news, tabla ustaad Zakir Hussain has passed away on December 15, 2024. Hussain was admitted to a hospital after he was unwell. He was taken to the ICU at a hospital in San Francisco. The maestro’s friend and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia had updated the media when he was taken to the hospital.
As per the reports, Zakir Hussain has been dealing with blood pressure issues, his manager informed. For the past two weeks, he has had a heart-related problem.

Zakir Hussain was the older son of legendary table player Ustad Allah Rakha. Hussain followed his father’s footsteps and made a name for himself in the music industry. He was respected and loved worldwide for his exceptional skills.
In 1988, Zakir was honoured with Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2023. The legendary artist had received five Grammy Awards, with three of them during the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024.
Zakir had taken to his Instagram page and wrote, “The 3 Grammys arrived right on Mother’s Day. Mucho thanks to the Academy, to my Shakti brothers and my As We Speak CD mates for carrying me through these many years to this landmark moment and of course the priceless joy of sharing “This Moment” with my family. Love you all.”
