The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has successfully graduated its first batch of Mahila Quick Reaction Team (QRT) commandos, marking a major step towards increasing the role of women in specialised security operations. The passing out ceremony was held on July 28, 2026 at the 10th Reserve Battalion in Bengaluru, which has now been designated as the CISF’s official Mahila QRT Training Centre. According to an official statement, the women commandos underwent intensive training designed to prepare them for high-risk security situations. The course included: – Tactical operations and close-quarter battle (CQB) techniques. – Counter-terrorism drills. – Rapid response operations. – Reflex firing and advanced weapons handling. – Emergency deployment to protect critical infrastructure. Commandos of Chhattisgarh’s specialised anti-Maoist District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters will be deployed at police stations across the seven districts of the Bastar region, marking a shift from counter-insurgency roles to regular policing, people aware of the matter said. Shah said 4,839 Maoists surrendered, 706 were killed, and 2,218 were arrested and jailed in the last three years. The state authorities have also maintained that Bastar is largely free of armed Maoist presence. Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, and Kanker districts were the epicentre of Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh for decades. New Delhi: The details of a daring operation in low-light conditions by Indian forces to rescue 17 crew of a merchant ship near the Somalian coast was made public by the government while honouring the pilot who flew a C-17 military transport aircraft to carry out the high-risk mission. Wing Commander Akshay Saxena, who was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) in June 2006, was posted with the C-17 squadron from February 2021. On the eve of Republic Day, he was conferred the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) “for his act of indomitable courage and conspicuous gallantry”. Wing Commander Saxena finalised suitable crew and ensured aircraft readiness for a quick launch due to the time critical and secret nature of the mission, the Defence Ministry said in a statement on January 25. The incident occurred in the early hours in Basaguda police station area when a joint team of security forces was out on an area domination operation, a senior police official said. Personnel belonging to the 229th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 206th battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), an elite jungle warfare unit of CRPF, were involved in the operation, he said. As per preliminary information, the personnel inadvertently came in contact with the pressure IED, triggering the blast and causing injuries to two of them, the official said. The injured constables, Mridul Barman and Mohd Ishaq, of the CoBRA 206th battalion, were evacuated and shifted to Basaguda CRPF camp where they were provided preliminary treatment, the official said, adding the duo was reported to be out …
