MK Stalin deposits Rs 5000 to 131 crore women ahead of Tamil Nadu polls

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday said his government has deposited Rs 5,000 each to 1.31 crore women beneficiaries of a government’s women entitlement scheme, a move coming months ahead of the Assembly polls that led to the opposition parties flaying his move as “fear of defeat at the hustings.” Also, the Chief Minister announced to double the monthly grant to Rs 2,000 if his DMK party was voted to power in the upcoming Assembly election. Noting that Rs 5,000 has been directly deposited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Women’s Entitlement scheme, he said, “You would have received R5,000 this morning. I have decided to provide the sum in view of an attempt (by vested interests) to freeze the scheme, citing upcoming elections.” So, in order to counter the move to prevent the women from receiving the monthly financial assistance due for them, he had decided to provide the sum for three months from February and in addition provide Rs 2,000 to meet their expenses during summer, …

NASA’s Curiosity Rover Set to Target Spiderweb-Like ‘Boxworks Deposits’ on Mars’ Surface

NASA’s Curiosity Rover Set to Target Spiderweb-Like ‘Boxworks Deposits’ on Mars’ Surface

NASA’s Curiosity rover is gearing up for a fresh phase of exploration on Mars, targeting a striking patch of surface features resembling spiderwebs. These structures, referred to as “boxwork deposits,” extend over an area of 10 to 20 kilometres and are believed to hold clues about the Red Planet’s ancient water systems, according to reports from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The investigation is expected to offer critical insights into Mars’ potential to have supported life in its distant past. Insights from Boxwork Features The rover recently concluded its exploration of Gediz Vallis, a channel on Mount Sharp’s slopes within Gale Crater, where it spent the last year. The JPL revealed that the region provided significant findings, including the discovery of pure sulphur crystals and wave-like rock formations, suggesting an ancient lake once existed there. A 360-degree panoramic image taken by the rover marked the completion of this leg of the mission. Boxwork formations, according to a Live Science report, form when mineral-rich water fills rock crevices, hardens, and later erodes. Kirsten Siebach, a Curiosity …

China Unearths Massive Gold Deposits That Could Be the Largest in the World

China Unearths Massive Gold Deposits That Could Be the Largest in the World

A significant gold deposit has been discovered in China’s Hunan Province, with experts estimating its value at approximately £66 billion. The find, reported by the Geological Bureau of Hunan Province (GBHP) on November 20, 2024, is being described as one of the largest known reserves of the precious metal. Located in the Wangu gold field, the deposit is believed to contain up to 1,100 metric tonnes of gold, making it potentially the largest single stockpile globally, according to mining specialists. Discovery Details and Potential Report indicates that more than 40 gold veins were identified during drilling operations at depths of 2,000 metres. Visible gold was observed in many of the rock cores retrieved, with some sections recording a quality of up to 138 grams of gold per metric tonne of ore. Mining experts predict that the deposit could extend to depths of 3,000 metres, based on advanced 3D modelling conducted during the exploration phase. Chen Rulin, an ore-prospecting expert at GBHP, noted during a statement to Chinese state media that the deposit represents an exceptional …

Opp candidates should lose deposits so there is peace forever: Bhupendra Patel | Elections News

Claiming that for the first time, the public enmasse has clarity on who to vote for in the Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday urged voters to ensure a lead so massive for the BJP candidate that all Opposition nominees lose their deposits and there is no “magajmari” (brainstorming) in the next elections. He was speaking at a ‘Modi Parivar Sabha’, an election meeting organised at BJP MLA Hardik Patel’s Assembly constituency of Viramgam in Ahmedabad district, which is a part of the Surendranagar Lok Sabha seat. Referring to BJP’s election slogan ‘Abki baar 400 par’, Patel termed it as a Jan Andolan (people’s movement), where the voters “themselves want the party win to cross 400 seats”. Paytm Payments Bank’s deadline to stop deposits extended till March 15 | Business News

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the deadline given to Paytm Payments Bank to stop deposits, credit transactions and top-ups in customer accounts by 15 more more days, till March 15. The central bank also asked Paytm to facilitate seamless withdrawal of customer deposits parked with partner banks. Earlier this month, the RBI had barred Paytm Payments Bank from accepting deposits or top-ups in any of its key products — customer accounts, prepaid instruments, wallets, FASTags and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) among others — after February 29 in the wake of “persistent non-compliances and material supervisory concerns”. The RBI decision essentially bars Paytm Payments Bank from offering all its core services — including accounts and wallets — from March, effectively crippling the company’s business. Given the significant customer base of Paytm — once the poster boy of India’s fintech revolution — this could impact a large number of customers. Paytm has been facing RBI scrutiny since 2018. While the RBI did not specify the reasons for the latest action, sources in the …

RBI Restricts Paytm Payments Bank From Taking New Deposits, Credit Transactions

The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday restricted Paytm Payments Bank Ltd from taking fresh deposits and credit transactions across its services, due to non-compliance of regulations and supervisory concerns. An audit report revealed “persistent non-compliances and continued material supervisory concerns in the bank, warranting further supervisory action,” the central bank said in a release. Paytm Payments Bank will not be allowed to take further deposits in any customer accounts after February 29, the RBI said. It added that no credit transactions will be allowed either, including via wallets. The withdrawal or utilisation of balances by its customers will be permitted without restrictions, the central bank said. Last month, One 97 Communications, parent of Paytm, confirmed a “slight reduction” in its workforce on Monday as part of cost-cutting measures without specifying the number of jobs. A company spokesperson, however, denied media reports at that time that suggested the non-bank lender could cut more than 1,000 roles. “We will be able to save 10-15 percent in employee costs as Artificial Intelligence (AI) has delivered more than we …
