How did India perform when Glasgow hosted 2014 Games?

How did India perform when Glasgow hosted 2014 Games?

Glasgow, Scotland, is set to host the Commonwealth Games for the second time in 12 years, with the 22nd edition scheduled from July 23 to August 2. Glasgow last hosted the Games in 2014, when the home nation achieved its best-ever performance with 53 medals, finishing 4th, just above India, in the medal tally. For India, that was, in fact, one of the weaker performances in recent times, as it was the only time in the last 6 editions that India finished outside the top 4. Although India won more total medals than Scotland (64), they still finished 5th in the overall standings due to fewer gold medals (15 compared to Scotland’s 19). Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Games, is the only medalist from that edition who is set to return for the 2026 Games. India’s Performance at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games: Wrestling: Most of India’s gold medals at this edition came in wrestling, with Amit Kumar, Vinesh Phogat, Sushil Kumar, Babita Kumari, and Yogeshwar Dutt …

Goalless for 7 hours and 4 games, Belgium hit 5 to seal qualification | Football News

4 min readJun 27, 2026 01:43 PM IST Going into their final group match, Belgium were the most lacklustre top-10 side on display. It took them four games and seven-odd hours to open their 2026 World Cup goal account – their strike against Egypt was an own goal. But Leandro Trossard burst open the floodgates when it was needed the most. The Arsenal forward finally converted his superlative form into final-third success with a brace that shaped Belgium’s thundering 5-1 win over New Zealand in Vancouver. Rudi Garcia’s men thus waltzed into the round of 32 as Group G’s top team following a 1-1 stalemate between Egypt and Iran in Seattle. Trossard had created five chances for midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne in the 0-0 draw with Iran, and nine overall in the tournament prior to the clash, as per Opta stats. The lack of clinicality in finishing, however, was hurting the ninth-ranked outfit’s cause. On Saturday, the 31-year-old changed that. He had his first fling in the 11th minute, with a left-footed shot clattering …

Triple Jumper Praveen Chithravel qualifies for Asian Games with effort of 16.92m

4 min readJun 26, 2026 11:47 PM IST Despite the Kalinga Stadium track being unduly bouncy due to afternoon rain, national triple jump record holder Praveen Chithravel soared 16.92m to win the title at the inter-state athletics championships and book his berth for the upcoming Asian Games. Chithravel was pushed all the way by veteran Kartik Unnikrishnan, who finished second with 16.80m while NCAA champion Selva Prabhu managed 16.79m to win the bronze medal. In all, six jumpers cleared the qualification mark of 16.28m and made it to the continental mega event to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from September 19-October 4. At the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Praveen failed to progress beyond the qualification round with a best jump of 16.74m. He has been trying to make up for that disappointment ever since. “I have lost a lot in the last two years. I was crying in Japan after failing to qualify for the World Championships final. But now I know that I will win for sure after losing so much,” Praveen said …
