Indian Men’s Foil team qualify for Asian Games

The competitive action at the 26th Asian Senior Fencing Championship reached its absolute peak on the final day at Bharat Mandapam, with the last two team titles decided in intense clashes on the pistes. Host nation India showed clear technical growth and marked a monumental developmental step forward while matching up against Asia’s elite, deeply seasoned Olympic-cycle structures. In the Men’s Foil Team category, the local rotation of Sachin, Sanasam Hemash Singh, Tejas Manoj Patil, and Aditya relied on rapid blade-work and close-quarter infighting. Backed by an electric home crowd, they minimized unforced errors and stayed highly competitive in their middle-relay blocks against world-class opposition to secure an impressive 8th position, locking in a direct qualification spot for the upcoming Asian Games. Meanwhile, the Women’s Épée Team of Prachi Lohan, Taniksha Khatri, Mitva Jesangbhai Chaudhari, and Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer brought immense tactical grit to the strip. Building on individual baselines, the local foursome successfully managed the clock and distance against towering continental units to show outstanding structural resilience and lock down a solid 9th-place ranking. …

Jyothi Yarraji seals Asian Games spot

Jyothi Yarraji seals Asian Games spot

In the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Inter State National Championships, Jyothi Yarraji stared at the big screen after the race. Once it flashed 12.99s in front of her name, she fell on the track, virtually hugging it and feeling it. The celebration showed how much it had meant to return to the track after a year-long layoff due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. She breezed through the hurdles to breach the Asian Games qualification mark and go under 13s in the final to claim the national title. Last year, Jyothi was bound for the World Championships, but a freak injury during training, where she hit a hurdle, kept her away from the track. “I felt so good today. Interestingly, exactly one year back, I got injured and today I am here clocking sub 13s, it means a lot for me,” Jyothi told the reporters after her race. “I was expecting a better race. Something around 12.6s, but that’s okay. I have been praying every day since I got injured on this …

Chance for Ruturaj, Sai & Padikkal to stake Test claim in 4-day games vs Sri Lanka A

After India A clinched the one-day tri-series with Vaibhav Sooryanshi performing the headline act, attention now shifts to their upcoming four-day fixtures, the first of which begins in Galle on Thursday. With the senior team set to tour the island in August for a two-match Test series with crucial World Test Championship (WTC) points up for grabs, a few of the Test regulars will get much-needed game time in Lankan conditions, which have tested them aplenty in recent years. India A, led by Dhruv Jurel, has B Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad – three batsmen whose performances will be keenly watched by the senior team management. In their last Test series against South Africa at home, which they lost, the performance of the batting unit in spin-friendly conditions caused plenty of concerns for India. The way Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj troubled Indians in the first Test at Kolkata prompted the think tank to explore the possibility of bringing in Gaikwad as a middle-order option for the second game in Guwahati. But the …

Asian Games row: Manika Batra threatens legal action, seeks PM intervention | Sports News

India’s leading table tennis player Manika Batra has intensified her challenge to her exclusion from the Asian Games squad, issuing a strongly-worded statement demanding answers from the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and warning that she could pursue legal action if a satisfactory explanation is not provided. Batra also said she has sought Prime Minister Narendra’s intervention. Batra, who was named only as a reserve for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, insisted that she was not seeking a place in the team or asking for the decision to be reversed. “Let me state this clearly. I am not asking to be selected. I am not asking anyone to overturn the decision. I am asking for answers,” Batra said. The former Asian Games medallist questioned the basis on which players were evaluated, pointing out that she is currently ranked World No. 51 and that international rankings operate on a rolling points system. She asked what period had been considered during the selection process and whether a marginal drop outside the world’s top 50 was enough to …
