CEO of Raichur Zilla Panchayat inspects lakes

Raichur Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Eshwar Kumar Kandoo visited lakes in Yarmaras and Tippaladinni in the Nagadadinni Gram Panchayat in Raichur district on Wednesday and inspected the water availability and drinking water situation. Mr. Kandoo instructed officials to lay a pipeline to the Tippaladinni lake from the Bangarappa lake and said that a canal should be constructed to the Bangarappa lake from the Nagadadinni lake. The Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants should be maintained properly to ensure potable drinking water, he said. Mr. Kandoo verified the present reports on Jaladhare, Jaljeevan Mission drinking water projects. SIR: Karnataka introduces doorstep delivery of caste certificate, PRCs

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara during the launch of the Revenue Department’s special campaign to visit every household in the State and distribute caste certificates free of cost, along with the permanent residence certificate service, at the Legislative Assembly Hall in Vidhana Soudha, in Bengaluru on Monday. Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Monday launched a door-to-door initiative to issue Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs), one of the 11 documents accepted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for voter verification under the exercise. While Tahsildars are the competent authority to issue PRCs, the State government has also authorised Deputy Tahsildars to issue the certificates to speed up the process. GBA to launch sapling plantation drive ‘Bengaluru Hasirooru’ from August 15

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Monday announced that a sapling plantation drive would be launched in the city from August 15 under the banner “Bengaluru Hasirooru”. The initiative, aimed at increasing the city’s green cover, will see the planting of 64,000 saplings across Bengaluru this year. In addition, 40,000 saplings will be distributed to members of the public who wish to undertake plantation drives on their own. The corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be responsible for maintaining the saplings for four years. To meet the target, the corporations have collectively earmarked ₹9.64 crore in their budgets, covering both plantation and years of maintenance. “This year, priority will be given to planting trees in residential layouts with public participation. Once the requirements of residential areas are met, the remaining saplings will be planted in public spaces, along roadsides, around lakes, and in parks,” Mr. Gowda said. He also instructed officials to plant six-foot-tall saplings in pits in accordance with prescribed norms. …

The results of the DCET-2026 (Diploma Common Entrance Test), conducted for diploma holders seeking direct admission to the third semester (second year) of engineering courses, have been announced on Friday, according to H. Prasanna, Executive Director of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Candidates can check their results by clicking the result link on the KEA website. He was inaugurating a programme organised to mark the inauguration of the renvoated Alnavar station developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Dharwad district on Friday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the station. “Railways is focusing on providing world-class passenger services, accelerating railway electrification, and modernising train operations,” Mr. Gehlot said. Rot in KPSC recruitment runs deep

A new scandal has hit the Karnataka State Public Service Commission (KPSC) — the State’s premier recruiting agency — even as the government has launched one of the largest recruitment drives to fill up 72,186 posts across departments. The commission has been in the news for the wrong reasons multiple times over the last two decades, and the latest one that has unfolded over the past week involves the commission’s Chairman Shivashankrappa S. Sahukar facing allegations of favouring his daughters in the recruitment to the Department of Industries and Commerce for which examination was conducted by the KPSC. In an unprecedented move, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has ordered suspension of Sahukar pending inquiry, who has since questioned it in the High Court of Karnataka. It is alleged that Sahukar neither formally declared a conflict of interest nor recused himself from the recruitment process to ensure transparency as is mandated. SC dismisses plea by Karnataka Legislative Council Deputy Chairman against recounting of votes

Murali Kumar The Supreme Court on Thursday (July 16) dismissed an appeal by Pranesh M.K., Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, challenging a High Court of Karnataka direction for a recount of votes polled in the 2021 Council election. Mr. Pranesh was elected as MLC by a narrow victory margin of six votes. The appeal was heard by a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Justice Vipul M. Pancholi, part of the Bench along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, pronounced the verdict. The High Court order of January 29 last year was based on a petition filed by Mr. Pranesh’s rival and Congress candidate A.V. Gayathri Shanthe Gowda. The Supreme Court reserved the appeal for judgment on March 11 this year. The judgment is yet to be uploaded on the Supreme Court website. A 45-year-old anaesthetist was found stabbed to death inside his apartment in Karnataka’s Dharwad, while his eight-year-old son suffered serious stab injuries in what police suspect was a case of domestic violence. The victim’s wife, who is also a doctor, has been taken into custody for questioning. Police said a preliminary investigation points to a domestic dispute, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family members.
