Ahead of the women’s nationals, taking place from March 21-27 in Greater Noida, Singh alleged that Kalita, who also serves as the secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association, has not allowed any boxers from his state to participate in the tournament. This fact was confirmed by Lovlina late on Wednesday. “I won’t be participating in the upcoming Nationals as Assam is not sending any team. If Assam is not sending any team, I can’t go on my own as an individual boxer,” Lovlina told The Indian Express from Guwahati. Story continues below this ad Earlier in the day, while addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Singh had claimed Lovlina will give the tournament a miss due to Kalita’s directive. “Assam Boxing state unit and some other state units are not allowing boxers to participate in the nationals. Lovlina forced to skip Nationals?

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh on Wednesday alleged that Hemanta Kalita was pressurising the Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and other Assamese boxers with the intent of keeping them from competing at the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship, scheduled to take place from March 20th to 27th in Greater Noida. Addressing the media, Singh said the Tokyo Olympics medalist is keen to participate in the nationals, but the boxers from Assam were being asked to withdraw by Kalita, who holds the post of secretary at Assam state body. “Assam is discouraging players from participating in the women’s Nationals. Lovlina has recorded a video of support. But officers have received a call that she has been asked by Hemanta Kalita not to participate. Because she owes a lot to Assam boxing, she is reconsidering her participation,” Singh said. Kalita along with treasurer Digvijay Singh were suspended with immediate effect after the duo were found guilty of ‘financial irregularities’. The decision was reached after the Sports Authority of India (SAI) …

Olympic medallist boxer back after a long break after Paris disappointment | Sport-others News

The last time Lovlina Borgohain donned a pair of gloves to box in a ring was at the Paris Olympics. Almost six months have passed since that heartbreaking loss to eventual gold medallist Li Qian – a Chinese titan who is the best middleweight woman boxer in the world. In contrast to the bright lights of the French capital, Borgohain will now compete at Pithoragarh in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, next to the Nepal border. After an extended break after the Olympics, the Indian boxing star will take the first steps towards a return to her sport when she participates at the National Games, being held across Uttarakhand. Also in her plans is a possible trip to the Kumbh Mela. “After Paris, it’s been a long break. The National Games will be my season-opening competition. My fitness is not as good as it was prior to Paris because of the long break. The return has been a little difficult but I feel the National Games could be a good platform to make a comeback. …
