Modi fulcrum of Bihar win, says BJP; JD(U) too hails vikas vision | Political Pulse News

“Bihar ke logon ko rajniti samjhani nahi padti hai, woh duniya ko rajniti samjhane ki taakat rakhte hain” (One doesn’t have to teach politics to the people of Bihar, they wield the power to teach politics to the world). This was Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Surat Saturday, crediting the people of Bihar for the decisive mandate that returned the ruling NDA to power in the state a day earlier. And in Patna, leaders of the BJP and JD(U), while thanking the people for the landslide victory, were quick to point out that this mandate was the outcome of the work done by the “double engine” governments of Modi at the Centre and Nitish Kumar in Bihar. JD (U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha told reporters: “It is the success of the double engine government, combining the development vision of both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.” The BJP, which secured 89 seats, four more than partner JD(U)’s 85, in a House of 243, pointed to the careful planning by the BJP central leadership with …

Grand Alliance fails to woo Dalit voters

Published on: Nov 15, 2025 06:48 am IST In the 2025 Bihar elections, the Grand Alliance’s Dalit outreach faltered, winning only 4 of 38 reserved seats, as NDA’s governance earned Dalit trust. New Delhi: The Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan’s Dalit outreach has failed in the 2025 Bihar election, with the grouping winning only four of the 38 seats reserved for the Scheduled Caste down from 17 in 2020. Grand Alliance fails to woo Dalit voters The result underlines the GA’s inability to win over voters outside the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Muslim-Yadav vote bank and highlights that the Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar-led NDA has earned the trust of the Dalits through better law and order and a focus on welfare and development . HT reported in the run-up to the poll that in several Dalit settlements, there was a fear of lawlessness (Jungle Raj) if the RJD-led GA returned to power. Dalits appreciated the political and financial empowerment plans of Nitish Kumar government, and they placed premium on peace and law and order. The NDA …

The resurrection of ‘coalition of extremes’ in Bihar

Published on: Nov 15, 2025 06:44 am IST The NDA triumphed over the MGB in Bihar, leveraging a coalition of Hindu upper castes and non-Yadav BCs, while Yadav representation declined significantly. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has vanquished the Mahagathbandhan (MGB) or Grand Alliance in Bihar. While elections are rarely a univariate phenomenon, caste is often central to politics in India, and perhaps more so in Bihar. This makes it important to look at the election results from the prism of caste in the state. HT will do this by using two databases – caste-wise database of NDA and MGB candidates in these elections and a historic caste database of Bihar’s MLAs from 1962 – prepared by the first author of this story to make this analysis. Here are key takeaways from our analysis based on these two databases. The resurrection of ‘coalition of extremes’ in Bihar The ‘subaltern’ engine has powered the NDA’s ‘coalition of extremes’ this time Nitish Kumar’s political genius and his indispensability lies in the fact that he has managed to …

How did Bihar go from a 2020 cliff-hanger to a 2025 landslide?

The 2020 assembly elections were a photo finish in Bihar and both major alliances ended up with almost the same vote share with a difference of just 0.03% in the votes polled between them. As is often the case in the first-past-the-post system, the seat share difference between the two alliances has increased even more: a massive 68.7 percentage point lead for the NDA compared to just six percentage points in 2020. What really happened? Here is a breakdown of the electoral math, as it changed between the 2020 and 2025 elections in Bihar. Supporters outside BJP headquarters after the victory on Friday.
