Have you ever fought before?)” When Anand says he hasn’t, Rajesh asks whether it’s due to a lack of opportunity. But he haughtily replies, “No, it’s due to lack of necessity.” Satya spoofs the dialogue in Korean Kanakaraju Days after this scene went viral as a meme, Satya’s character Kishtappa …

Shool actor Sayaji Shinde planted 6.5 lakh trees to keep 92-year-old mother alive forever | Bollywood News

They say when you love someone deeply, the greatest fear is losing them. But actor Sayaji Shinde transformed that fear into a movement that is now breathing life into thousands of villages across Maharashtra. What began as a son’s love for his mother eventually became one of the most inspiring environmental missions in the country — a mission that has led to the planting of over 6.5 lakh trees. The actor has worked across film industries in India and done films such as Shool, Sarkar Raj and Sanju among many others. Born into a farmer’s family in Maharashtra’s Satara district, Sayaji grew up witnessing struggle closely. The replacement land promised to the family arrived only after 35 years. Before Dhurandhar’s ‘Naya Bharat’, Rohit Shetty’s Zameen planted the seed of an India that fights back | Opinion-entertainment News

4 min readNew DelhiMar 14, 2026 01:58 PM IST Long before the cop universe of Rohit Shetty turned testosterone-driven nationalism into blockbuster entertainment, the idea had already appeared — quietly and imperfectly — in his debut film Zameen. Watching the film in 2026 feels less like revisiting a forgotten action thriller and more like discovering the rough first draft of the “Naya Bharat” that later became big with the likes of Dhurandhar. It was purely a coincidence that I chose to watch Zameen on Rohit Shetty’s 52nd birthday. The intention was simple: to understand whether the filmmaker who would later build one of Hindi cinema’s most commercially successful cop universes had hinted at that vision in his very first film. What I discovered was surprising. Beneath the film’s rough filmmaking lies an imagination of an India that fights back — the same idea that the upcoming film Dhurandhar now appears ready to revisit when its sequel releases on March 19. Both films draw from the same painful chapters in India’s history — the Indian Airlines …

Signature campaign in Kolkata to protect tamarind tree planted by revolutionary 70 years ago

The tree was planted by freedom fighter Parul Mukherjee about 70 years ago. Photo: Debalina Majumder A signature campaign is going on to save a massive tamarind tree in a south Kolkata neighbourhood, something that residents and activists fear might be brought down if the administration does not specifically mark it as protected. The tree is important not just because it is a living landmark, serving as a home to numerous varieties of birds, but also because it was planted by freedom fighter Parul Mukherjee about 70 years ago. She was a revolutionary who in 1935, when she was only 20, was convicted in the Titagarh conspiracy case and spent four years in jail. After Independence and Partition, she moved to Calcutta to a refugee settlement that was subsequently named Vidyasagar Colony, where she died in 1990. Only recently a documentary made on the tree, Friends of Jilipibala, was selected for world premiere in the National Competition on Documentary category at the Kolkata International Film Festival. “I have been documenting this tamarind tree for 12 …

Planted 1,000 trees, not because of violation: MCD on compensatory afforestation in Paschim Vihar

Planted 1,000 trees, not because of violation: MCD on compensatory afforestation in Paschim Vihar

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has carried out compensatory afforestation and planted over 1,000 saplings in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar as ordered by the state forest department, the civic body told the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The report added that the horticulture department has completed the plantation without “admitting any violation”. MCD was asked to carry out compensatory afforestation for excessive pruning in the area, for which the department has filed an affidavit mentioning that the pruning was done in “good faith” and that the compensatory plantation is not an admittance of guilt or any wrongdoing. NGT is hearing a plea in which Paschim Vihar resident Khyati Anand had alleged illegal lopping and pruning of more than 250 trees in various blocks in February and March 2024. The forest department, in an affidavit in January this year, had stated that though MCD has the approval to prune trees, the activity was done far beyond the permitted numbers. The forest department, in its report dated January 13, had also said it has asked the civic …
