The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out a major demolition drive in Akurdi on Wednesday, removing nearly 12,000 square feet of unauthorised structures near Hotel Majestic as part of its ongoing action against illegal constructions across the city. The operation was conducted under the direct instructions of PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi and targeted unauthorised RCC structures and tin-sheet sheds built on Survey No. 7/1/1B in Ward No. 15, which falls under the jurisdiction of the civic body`s ‘A’ Ward Office. According to civic officials, the action forms part of the municipal corporation’s broader efforts to enforce building regulations, prevent illegal construction activities and ensure planned urban development. A fire broke out on the second floor of the Ministry of Education office located within the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) campus in Delhi`s ITO area on Monday morning, officials said, reported the PTI. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call about the incident at around 9:37 am. In response, eight fire engines were immediately dispatched to the site to tackle the blaze, as per the PTI. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the decision to cap the liability of private players in the event of a nuclear tragedy is a matter of “fiscal policy” that courts cannot second-guess, even as it agreed to examine in July a challenge to the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act, 2025. Chandigarh, The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report pertaining to a large number of CCTV cameras installed by the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula being “non-functional” and called for a report from the concerned officials in the matter. Haryana Human Rights Commission seeks report over ‘non-functional’ CCTV cameras in Panchkula In its order issued on Tuesday, the HHRC has expressed serious concern over the issue. According to the news report, out of a total of 473 CCTV cameras installed by the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, nearly 200 cameras are currently non-functional, constituting a substantial portion of the surveillance infrastructure. Despite repeated concerns raised by the traffic police for timely repair and maintenance, the issue persists, indicating administrative delay. As a result, there has been a significant decline in traffic challans issued through electronic surveillance, the report said. The HHRC, comprising Chairperson Justice Lalit Batra and Members Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhatia, has taken a serious view of the matter.
