Two workers lost their lives on Tuesday, as a plastic waste recycling unit at Dakshin Energy in Parwada, Andhra Pradesh, got engulfed in flames. The factory, located in Anakpalli district’s Pharma City, is a small-scale industry that extracts pyrolysis oil from plastic waste, which is used as a raw material in biodiesel production, Parawada Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B Mohan Rao told news agency PTI. “Flames apparently emerged during the process, possibly due to gas, and engulfed the two workers. Both of them died in the fire.”, said the police officer, while talking about the plastic unit’s operation of a reactor that processes plastic waste to extract pyrolysis oil. A plastic recycling unit located in a residential area in Sunkadaktte was gutted and two houses adjacent to it partially damaged in an accidental fire that broke out in the afternoon on Thursday. The fire was noticed around 2.10 p.m. prompting the occupants to rush out to safety. The fire spread due to the plastic material Two houses adjacent to the unit were also partially damaged in the fire, officials said. Five fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire after two hours of dousing operations. Material and equipment worth lakhs were damaged but no one was injured in the incident, a police officer said. The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) launched Rejubit, the first made-in-India rejuvenating agent for restoring and recycling old bitumen roads on Thursday. This agent will reduce the cost of relaying roads by 66% and lower the country’s import burden. Gadkari also emphasised the need for eco-friendly and cost-effective road solutions to support India’s growing infrastructure. MG Motor India on Thursday said it has partnered with the Epsilon Group for EV charging solutions and battery recycling. As part of the collaboration, the automaker has signed an MoU with two Epsilon Group subsidiaries – Power EV, for charging solutions and LICO, for battery recycling and second-life expertise. As per the agreement, Power EV will provide Custom Charging technology to develop AC and DC charging solutions for charging solutions for MG’s EVs. India is among the twelve countries responsible for 60 percent of the planet’s mismanaged plastic waste though the fast-developing South Asian nation’s per capita plastic waste production is among the lowest in the world, according to a new report. The Plastic Overshoot Day report by Swiss non-profit EA Earth Action also said global plastic waste generation has risen by 7.11 per cent since 2021. The world is estimated to have generated 220 million tons of plastic waste this year, 70 million tons of which will end up polluting the environment. The report comes ahead of the fourth meeting of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) in Ottawa, Canada, as the world leaders attempt to develop a legally binding instrument to end plastic pollution. “Twelve countries are responsible for 60 per cent of the world’s mismanaged plastic waste: China, India, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia, Egypt, Pakistan, the United States and Turkey,” it said.
