Neetu Nagar, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Rouse Avenue Court on Friday demanded a written explanation from the agency, questioning why a closure report was filed in January 2025 despite the CBI’s own findings explicitly stating that a suspect had collected money from candidates by “luring them with leaked question papers”. “Perusal of the closure report shows that it has been mentioned in para no. 16.30 by the IO (investigating officer) concerned that ‘Nikhil Soni has collected money from the aspirants of the UGC-NET 2024 by luring them on pretext of giving/leaking the exam paper’,” said Nagar in her order dated May 15. “It is manifest that crime has been committed as per the contents of para 16.30 but still the investigating officer has ignored the same and filed a closure report for reasons best known …

It started in May 2022 with the arrest of one of Kejriwal’s close aides Satyendar Jain, who was the Delhi Health Minister at the time, in an alleged money laundering case by the ED. Jain spent two years and five months behind bars in a case registered by the CBI in 2017. He is the only one on the list of AAP leaders who were sent to jail on charges separate from the excise case. Another jolt came when AAP’s communications in-charge Vijay Nair was arrested in September 2022. He was released two years later in the same month in 2024. Delhi Excise Policy Case News Live: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to approach the High Court, challenging the Rouse Avenue Court’s order discharging former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and all other accused in the alleged Excise Policy Scam case. Earlier in the day, the Delhi court discharged former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and all other accused in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case linked to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. The court observed that the agency failed to present material sufficient to proceed against them. The order was passed by Special Judge Jitender Singh, who refused to frame charges in the corruption case, discharging all 23 accused persons. ‘IMPLICATED WITHOUT MATERIAL’  The court noted that no prima facie case was made out against the accused and observed significant shortcomings in the prosecution’s case. A Delhi court on Monday accepted the ED’s closure report in a money laundering case against Suresh Kalmadi, the former head of the 2010 Commonwealth Games organising committee, its then secretary general Lalit Bhanot and others. This brings to end the money laundering angle in the alleged scam, which triggered a massive political uproar during the Congress-led UPA government. Kalmadi faces another corruption case linked to the CWG Games, in which the CBI has accused him of irregularities in awarding a contract to a Swiss firm, allegedly causing a loss of more than `90 crore to the exchequer.
