110 students fall ill after lunch at private Icndore school; expired food items found in kitchen

Around 110 children fell ill after consuming food at a private school in Indore, prompting the administration to launch a probe into the matter and seal the kitchen on Monday (June 22, 2026), said officials. The district administration sealed the kitchen of the private school after finding expired food items and other irregularities during an investigation into the suspected food poisoning incident two days ago, they said. Following a complaint from parents, the administration conducted an inspection at the Jhalaria campus of Shishukunj International School on Bypass Road. A total of 23 samples of various food items and prepared meals used in the school kitchen were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing, according to the officials During the inspection, 10 packets of spices and two of namkeen were found in the kitchen which were past their expiry dates, they said, adding while a case is being prepared for various irregularities, the school kitchen was sealed until further orders. Boy jumps from school building in East Godavari, dies

A 13-year-old student of Kumaradevam village of Kovvuru mandal, allegedly ended his life by jumping from a private school building at Kapavaram village in East Godavari district, the police said on Monday, adding that he was studying Class 7. According to Kovvuru police, the reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.  Post-mortem has been performed in Kovvuru government hospital. The police registered a case and the investigation is under way. Police initiate school safety analysis using 12-point questionnaire in Kochi

The Ernakulam Rural police are reviewing student safety in schools, covering infrastructure, personal, emotional, and cyber aspects. The structural integrity of compound walls and gates, police clearance certificates of school vehicle drivers, and vehicle fitness are being reviewed. The police have collected data on safety features in around 120 of the 140 schools in the Munambam subdivision using a 12-point questionnaire. Special attention will be given to schools that report shortcomings in the survey, officers said. Schools have also been asked whether complaint boxes have been installed and whether students have been sensitised on how to use them. The questionnaire also seeks to ascertain whether school authorities have taken steps to prevent the sale of drugs and tobacco products on their premises and to regulate the use of mobile phones by students during school hours. A special POCSO court in Rangareddy district convicted a gymnastics and karate coach and a private school principal in a 2019 child sexual abuse case registered by Miyapur police, sentencing the coach to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and the principal to three years of simple imprisonment. The court convicted Kura Kiran Sai, 31, a gymnastics and karate coach, for sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a term of not less than 20 years and fined ₹20,000. The second accused, Chilakamukku Deepika, 37, principal of the private school where the incident occurred, was convicted for negligence and sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000. The court also awarded compensation of ₹3 lakh to the victim. According to the police, the case was registered on June 27, 2019, following a complaint by the victim’s father citing that his daughter had shown signs of distress after returning from preschool and was unwilling to attend school. …

The Division Bench of the Madras High Court has set aside an order passed by a single judge on May 14, 2025 appointing an interim administrator for a society which runs Chettinad Vidyashram School in Chennai and remitted the matter to the single judge for fresh consideration. The Bench comprising Justices P. Velmurugan and K. The deceased was identified as Meenakshi Mittal, administrator of Saraswati Paradise International Public School in Housing Board Colony, Sanjauli. According to police, unidentified assailants arrived at the school around 7.30 p.m. and opened fire. Three rounds were allegedly fired, and Mittal sustained a gunshot wound to the head. She died on the spot. Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident and secured the area. A forensic examination of the site was conducted and evidence was collected, officials said. A case of murder has been registered and an investigation has been launched into all aspects of the incident. Special police teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the accused, while an extensive search operation is underway, police said.
