A brief spell of tension prevailed in Kuraoli town in Uttar Pradesh after a dispute among some people over the venue for Eid namaz. However, the situation was defused following an intervention by the administration, officials said on Monday. As reported by news agency PTI, the disagreement in Mainpuri surfaced on March 21 when a section of people insisted on offering namaz at a chabutra in a nearby field across the road from the idgah, claiming that prayers had been held there in the past. Amid the heated situation, people from the Muslim community maintained that the namaz should be offered inside the Idgah premises, as is the established practice. In the wee hours of the Saturday morning, Chandrashekhar, also known as ‘Farsa Baba’ or ‘Farse Wale Baba’, was run over by a truck on the Agra-Delhi highway near Mathura. As per the district administration and the police, Farsa Baba and his disciple were “checking” a container truck on the highway on suspicion that it was carrying cows. Police on Friday arrested two men for allegedly abducting and assaulting a married woman with mental health issues, an officer said. According to police, the case was registered on Thursday at Bansdih Police Station on a complaint lodged by the victim`s husband. Based on the complaint, the police booked two brothers — Santosh Kumar Thakur, alias Munna Thakur, and Rajesh Kumar Thakur, alias Guddu Thakur, aged 48 and 43. The FIR stated that on the night of February 27, the woman left her house and reached Kewra Chatti but was abducted by the two men on a motorcycle. They took her behind a cold storage facility in the area, where they assaulted her when she resisted the sexual advance, it read. According to police, Waseem Ahmed, a resident of Subedar Bahua village under Mohanganj police station limits, was taking his wife Anwari (60) on a bicycle to purchase medicines.
