Several celebrities came out in solidarity with Bangladeshi Hindus after the brutal mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a young factory worker, in Bangladesh over alleged blasphemy.

Several Indian celebrities have condemned the barbaric lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu factory worker, in Bangladesh amid large-scale violence ahead of the February 12 elections. Actors such as Jahnvi Kapoor and Kajal Aggarwal have called for accountability from Bangladeshi authorities after the incident, which has further strained ties between New Delhi and Dhaka.

Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, was lynched by a mob, and his body was set on fire over accusations of blasphemy in violence-hit Bangladesh. His brutal killing sparked major outrage and highlighted the poor condition of minorities in the country. Seven people have been arrested in connection with Das’ lynching and investigators later found no evidence of blasphemy.

After Das, another Hindu man was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district on Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mandal alias Samrat, was assaulted around 11 pm at Hosaindanga Old Market in Pangsha Upazila and died shortly after the attack.

In a strongly worded note, Jahnvi Kapoor condemned the “barbaric and inhumane” mob lynching in Mymensingh, saying, “If you don’t know about his inhumane public lynching, read about it, see the videos, ask the questions. And if despite all of this you feel no rage, then it is exactly this kind of hypocrisy that will destroy us before we know it. We will continue to cry about things half way across the globe while our own brothers and sisters are burnt to death.”

‘Attack On Hindu Religion’

Leading South Indian actress Kajal Aggarwal shared an “All eyes on Bangladesh Hindus” poster on her Instagram story to condemn the incident, highlighting how rising Islamist extremism in Bangladesh has threatened the safety of minorities.

The poster depicted a man set on fire and hung from a tree, in a visual reference to Das’s lynching, with a message saying, “Wake up Hindus, silence won’t save you.”

Actress and former MP Jaya Prada said that the brutal incident made her “heart bleed”. She called the mob lynching an attack on the Hindu religion and questioned the silence of the authorities on it.

“Today I am very unhappy, my heart is bleeding, thinking how such kind of brutality can be done to a person, in Bangladesh, an innocent Hindu person Dipu Charan Das was lynched by a mob, they not only killed him, but set himself on fire after tying to a tree, is this the new Bangladesh?” she said in an emotional video address.

“It is not normal violence, it is a mob lynching, it is an attack on the Hindu religion, our temples are being demolished, the women are being attacked, how long we will be silent? We are silent on the name of secularism, we should raise our voices, we should help the people there… We should together try to seek justice for them.”

‘When Something Happens In Gaza…’

Actor Manoj Joshi, best known for his comedic roles, told news agency ANI, “Everyone comes forward when something happens in Gaza or Palestine, but when a Hindu is killed in Bangladesh, it is very sad that nobody comes forward. Time will give its answer.”

Singer Tony Kakkar released a new song, ‘Chaar Log’, in which he referenced Das’ lynching and called for rejecting discrimination based on religious grounds

His lyrics said, “Dipu Chandra Das ki koi baat kare, zimmedar logon se sawalat kare. Aise dharm ke naam pe maar kaat sahi hai kya. Hindu Muslim na koi jaat paat kare. Uparwala bhi dekh raha hai ro raha hai. Uski duniya mein kya kya ho raha hai… Uski jaan chali gayi koi to baat kare. (Let’s talk about Dipu Chandra Das and ask questions to those responsible. Is it right to kill on religious lines? There should be no Hindu-Muslim or caste-based discrimination. God is in tears after seeing what’s happening in his world… He (Das) lost his life and people should talk about it).”

The lynching of Dipu Das invited sharp condemnation in India, with protests swelling outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi.
