Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant on Thursday had a narrow escape after the helicopter carrying him to Gadchiroli developed a technical problem shortly after take-off from Nagpur, forcing the pilot to abort the flight, reported the PTI.
Samant later travelled to Gadchiroli by road. He said the pilot handled the situation properly and safely brought the helicopter back to the runway.
Speaking to a television channel, Samant said he boarded the helicopter at Nagpur between 8.30 am and 8.45 am to travel to Gadchiroli.
According to the minister, the pilot had informed him that the helicopter had recently undergone maintenance and that weather conditions were suitable for the flight, the news agency reported.
However, after the engine was started and the helicopter took off, the pilot detected a technical problem and decided to abort the flight.
Samant said that the helicopter was brought back to the runway and he safely disembarked, the news agency reported.
Samant questions how fault developed after maintenance
The Shiv Sena leader said he was not aware of the exact nature of the technical fault.
However, he questioned how a problem could develop so soon after the helicopter had reportedly undergone maintenance checks.
He said the pilot handled the situation well and ensured that the flight was aborted safely.
Minister travels to Gadchiroli by road
After the incident, Samant travelled by car to Gadchiroli, around 170 km from Nagpur.
The minister was scheduled to travel to Surjagad in Gadchiroli for official engagements.
Samant on Thursday held a constituency-wise review meeting with Shiv Sena elected representatives, office-bearers and workers in Armori, Gadchiroli district.
The meeting, held at Sumanand Hall in Armori, focused on strengthening the party organisation and planning its future activities across the district.
Focus on strengthening party organisation
Addressing party workers, Samant said Shiv Sena had a strong organisational base in Gadchiroli and urged workers to work together to expand the party’s presence in every constituency and village.
He said the strength of the party lay in its workers and called on office-bearers to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.
Workers urged to take welfare schemes to people
Samant said the Mahayuti government had taken several decisions in the interest of the people and urged party workers to ensure that welfare schemes reached the last person in need.
He also asked workers to coordinate with the local administration to address people’s problems and resolve their grievances at the local level.
Samant assured workers that the party would stand firmly behind those who worked actively for the organisation and the public.
