The government formed a ​five-member High- Power Committee (HPC) for conservation of tigers in Andhra Pradesh as per the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment and Forests K. Pawan Kalyan. The decision came following the recent suspicious death of a tigress in the Nallamala forest, according to an official release. 

It was stated that the government called for a comprehensive report on tiger conservation and guidelines for drafting future action plans. 

Mr. Kalyan ordered that proactive measures be taken to protect the animals and directed the officials to conduct a detailed field study on how to prevent poaching and address related issues. 

The committee comprises ​State Forest Department Advisor P. Mallikarjuna Rao, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rahul Pandey, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) member B. Rajasekhar, Hyderabad Conservation for Tiger Society representative Imran Siddiqui and noted wildlife scientist M. Naveen Kumar.

Mr. Kalyan instructed the HPC to identify the threats to tiger population and habitats in the State and to formulate suitable strategies for saving them. He wanted the HPC report to be submitted at the earliest in order to boost tiger conservation efforts with renewed vigour.
