Amit Shah earlier spoke to the Delhi Commissioner of Police and the Special Branch in-charge, while the NSG and NIA teams are leading a multi-agency probe into the blast.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at the site of a deadly explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station that rocked the national capital on Monday, after meeting with the injured victims at the Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash (LNJP) Hospital

The Home Minister met the injured after the devastating high-intensity blast in Delhi that triggered panic and chaos in the area. The Delhi Commissioner of Police was also present at the hospital to meet the victims.

After meeting with the injured, Amit Shah held a meeting with Delhi Police CP Satish Golcha and other officials, who briefed him on the ongoing investigation and the security measures in place. He also held a meeting with a team of doctors.

“This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives,” he said in a post before leaving for the hospital.

“The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have now begun a thorough investigation. Orders have been given to examine all nearby CCTV cameras,” he said, adding that he has spoken to the Delhi Commissioner of Police and the Special Branch in-charge, who were at the site.

“We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account. All options will be investigated immediately and we will present the results to the public. I will be heading to the spot shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has issued a high alert across the country, including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, government buildings and other key installations under its security cover. An NSG team has arrived at the blast site to carry out an inspection, along with Delhi Police’s FSL team.

Terror Probe On

According to sources, CCTV footage from the entire area, including the nearby metro station, is being examined to trace any suspicious movements. Preliminary inputs suggest that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). One suspect is currently in Delhi Police custody, and possible links to Jammu and Kashmir are being investigated.

Police sounded a high alert in Delhi. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot with police cordoning off the area, the Delhi Fire Services said. Later, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the site after intelligence inputs suggested the explosion was linked to a terror-related plot.

The incident occurred just hours after police uncovered an interstate terror module allegedly linked to banned organisations and seized more than 2,900 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate. This included 360 kg recovered earlier and an additional 2,500 kg of the explosive substance.
