BJP MP gives Priyanka Gandhi a reminder on 1984 riots, in her own style | India News

BJP MP from Odisha Aparajita Sarangi gave a bag with “1984” inscribed on it to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the corridor of Parliament on Friday.

The inscription was a reference to the anti-Sikh riots in 1984, when Congress workers and leaders were accused of instigating mobs to kill members of the community, after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

According to news agency PTI, Vadra took the bag from Sarangi and walked on.

Days earlier, Priyanka was spotted in Parliament carrying a bag with the word ‘Palestine’ on it. Later, she also wore a bag with the words ‘Bangladesh ke Hindu aur Isaiyon ke saath khade raho’ (stand with the Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh) written.

While some Congress leaders praised Vadra for the Palestine bag, calling it “a gesture of compassion, commitment to justice and humanity,” the BJP accused her of “appeasement” politics.

“They (Congress leaders) have never hung the bag of patriotism on their shoulders. This baggage is the reason behind their defeats,” said party MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra.

Sarangi could not be reached for comment.
